The GARDEN
Who am I?
I am an artist.
What am I doing?
I look at the garden.

Our society is a garden that we cultivate and where we interact with each other.
The river of time brings new people with their cultures, and, as in water, in our life, everything mixes and starts again.
I have been following this change for quite a while now, and have been part of it.

I researched the state of colors in society through emotional reflection of colors. A passion for the exploration of colors and an open mind are at the heart of my philosophy.
ABOUT ME
My name is Maria Lvova and I am an artist from Geneva. I see things through the prism of colours. Since childhood I see with colour, hear with colour, remember people and events with combinations of colours. I belong to synaesthetes (usually at the age of 5 children's receptors of sight, taste and smell are separated, as for synaesthetes - not all, or all are not separated).
I associate colour with smells, faces and events. I find it interesting to observe how our memory picks up fragments of the past and colours them in different ways. It is these different combinations that pop up as memories of tastes, smells, events, people. On canvas they are transformed into certain images, snatched from life impressions, into frames with different focus and sharpness.
In my work I explore the synergy between the elements of different cultural traditions across Europe, especially in Switzerland. I see them coming together and interacting, be it ornamentation, architecture, flowers, fruit, plants, faces and silhouettes. I am very fond of Swiss modernist painters. I am inspired by the landscapes of F Vallotton and F Hodler.
I work a lot with acrylics, watercolours and digital. I use photographs and videos as support material for my compositions. I often find new ideas, or sketch future paintings in a computer programme. Ironically, the computer processing of images gives me inspiration for new searches in the material, which leads to the creation of something entirely new.

We are often like big unreasonable children, even a slight whistle whose movements can change everything irreversibly, like the "butterfly effect".

Metamorphosis.
Neo-pagan cults, witchcraft, herbalism, - not only allowed women to express their spiritual experience on their own terms, but also called for a more ecological view of the world. The attitude towards nature adopted in Paganism and magical practices is more ecological, as it suggests that the Earth is not a faceless resource, but a space full of life and magic.

EXOTIC FRUITS
Exotic means curious, strange, foreign or far away.
Fruits, like crops, move around the world with territorial expansion, especially through transnational trade and migration. Seeds are carried by the wind, in clothing or in cargo, without meaning to. The fruit is not only natural, but also a cultural object.

In the garden, different plants adapt to life next to each other.

"Wisdom, Strength and Beauty." - Vitruvius
FROM THE BINARY OPPOSITIONS OF MALE AND FEMALE TO ANDROGYNY.
The work on the series "Le musa", is an attempt to examine the relationship between visuality and the hidden elements of the plant world's form. Through fragments of the whole image, the viewer can discover the opposition and unity of the masculine and the feminine in one plant.

Addressing the familiar image of the banana through its unfamiliar inflorescence is an attempt to understand nature's amazing structures in terms of their necessity. Nature is always functional. If we turn to the morphology of this plant, we see that it has three genders at once: female, male, and bisexual.
The feminine is strongly conspired by the masculine appearance of the inflorescence.

In different cultures, the shape of the fruit of the plant has been a masculine symbol for a long time. The upward thrust of the plant itself, the verticals of the stem and leaf pattern, underline this visual impression. The flowering of the huge inflorescence, in its form, is associated with both masculine and feminine. It hides flowers of all genders behind its large petals.

The color scheme is designed to emphasis the natural energy and vitality of the banana plant, bringing in both energetic and softer shades

I associate color with smells, faces and events.
Combining color, element and rhythm, we immerse ourselves in a particular world of associations through which something different is revealed to each of us.
I observe the changes in color preferences in our society: how are new color combinations and ornaments from other cultures woven into the modern aesthetic?
What do technological innovations change in our color perception?
How is all this interwoven into something completely new?
The river of time brings new people with their cultures, and, like water, in our lives everything mixes and starts again.

River 2
The canvas speaks to us in different ways, depending on whether we are approaching it or moving away from it. Some of my works can be read both horizontally and vertically, for example FLeuve 2, where the theme of movement, the flow of water in a certain direction, is replaced by an upward movement, when the work is viewed vertically.

DETAIL

Why did our mind grab precisely this fragment? And it's turning in your head all day or a week ?
Women often pay a lot of attention to details; they like to look at details, and not only women.
Is it just so pretty, intense, beatiful or amazing_
The color have struck a massive chord here ?
